#BlackOwnedWine: Week 2: LVE French Sparkling Rosé
Hey guys. It’s Week 2 of me reviewing Black Owned Wine and this week’s wine was music to my palate. #AllOfMe can’t wait for you to try this one. I’m giving you the #GreenLight to drink this all summer long. Why? Cause this wine was made for #OrdinaryPeople . Ok, ok, I’ll stop. lol. If you haven’t guessed that this week’s wine belongs to none other than John Legend, I’m VERY disappointed. I’m not mad. Just disappointed.
John has a collection of wine called LVE which stands for Legend Vineyard Exclusive. LVE already had a still Rosé in their portfolio and earlier this year, they decided to expand their Rosé portfolio with this sparkling.
LVE was started in 2015 when John decided to get into an ENTANGLEMENT (I’m sorry. Did anyone else watch Red Label Talk with Will and Jada? ) with Raymond Vineyards. Raymond Vineyards is a well established winery out in Napa Valley that has been making wine for over 40 years. So it was a perfect match up for John and Raymond to start making some wine together.
I mean what CAN’T this man do?! His name says it all. He is a legend. He has already solidified himself in history. He is one of the ONLY Black EGOTS (There are 5) out there. “What’s an EGOT?” I hear some of you asking. It’s a person who has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony award. Yeah, the top of the TOP.
But you know, I commend John for venturing out and getting into the world of wine. Music and wine have been at an intersection forever. I think it’s great that he’s decided to get into a field that has been mainly dominated by people that don’t look like him. He’s decided to use his name and platform to put something out there that he loves. He and Chrissy LOVE wine. When asked about his decision to get into the wine business, John said “I personally love wine. And I know that my fans love to enjoy my music with wine. When I began to create the LVE Collection, I wanted something soulful, elegant, complex and seductive.” Well he’s accomplished all that and more with this sparkling and with the entire LVE portfolio.
Smart move on behalf of John and LVE to come out with the some Sparkling Rosé because in the summer, WHO doesn’t like sipping on some pretty pink bubbles?! Especially this year. We’ve all been through SO much already and I’m sure 2020’s got some more tricks up her sleeve, that little mix, but it’s nice sometimes to step away from all that and find some joy. And nothing brings me more joy than sipping on something pretty and pink.
Now to give you guys a little bit of general wine facts. As far as how this Sparkling Wine is made, LVE uses the Charmat Method as opposed to the Method Champenoise a.k.a. The Traditional Method. The main difference between these two methods are how they do the Secondary Fermentation process. With the Method Champenoise, the secondary fermentation process is done in the bottle and lasts anywhere from about a year to over 5 years. With the Charmat Method, it’s a much shorter process. The secondary fermentation is done in a stainless steel tank and the process lasts anywhere from 1 to 6 weeks. LVE French Sparkling Rosé uses the Charmat Method but then they age it for an additional 3 months. To learn more about the different methods, head here.
And now…THE MOMENT YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR! (Not a John Legend reference. Anyone else, like me, watching Hamilton on Disney+ NON-STOP (another Hamilton reference) since it aired last weekend? Anyone?
No. Ok. ANYWAY, the moment you’ve been waiting for, The Tasting Notes!
Label: AGAIN, with the Rose Gold foil. I was SOLD.
Eyes: Small, delicate bubbles. Pale, Peach color.
Nose: Super fragrant. Citrus, Strawberries, Cranberry, Tart Cherry, Lemon Peel
On The Palate: Bubbles are soft and delicate. Citrus, strawberry, grapefruit. Fruity but also nicely acidic.
Varietal Breakdown: According to their website, 10% Pinot Noir, 10% Grenache, 80% White Varietal Blend (I find that 80% number hilarious. That could bee ANY white grape varietal. lol)
Food Pairing: You now, since John Legend is married to Chrissy Teigen, who is not only a Supermodel but also the BIGGEST foodie out there, I thought it would great to pair this wine with some recipes from her cookbook “Cravings: Hungry For More.” 2 out of the three recipes I’ve paired with this are BRUNCH OPTIONS!
Who doesn’t love Brunch? Don’t answer that. I fear your answer might tear us apart.
-Crispy Parm Waffle
-Cheesy Spicy Breakfast Hash
And if you don’t like Brunch (cause you want to hurt my feelings):
-Shake and Bake Chicken w/ Hot Honey
I was not paid by Chrissy or her people for this endorsement of her cookbook. I just love her and her recipes so much and I genuinely think they go great with this sparkling.
